Terms of use.
This is a website where I write about home education and give away one guide. There is nothing to buy, nothing to sign up for beyond an email address, and no account to create — so these terms are short.
The site is run by Full Clarity Limited, the company behind Termly. Using the site means accepting what is below. If you do not accept it, please do not use the site.

What this site is
A place where Anna writes about home educating her own children, and where other parents can read that writing and take what is useful from it. Concretely, the site does four things:
- Publishes writing about home education, drawn from experience rather than from a method.
- Offers one free guide, Know Your Why — seven questions to ask before choosing home education — by email.
- Points at the HomeEd Collective, a series of recorded conversations.
- Points at Termly, an app and community platform for home-educating families, which Anna co-founded and which is in development rather than finished.
Everything on this site is free. There is nothing to buy, no subscription, no account and no payment. If that ever changes, anything offered for sale will carry its own terms of sale, and these terms will not silently start governing a purchase.
Nothing here is a promise about Termly. Descriptions of what it does are descriptions of a product being built, and are not a commitment to any particular feature, launch date or geographic coverage.
Who it is for
The site is written for adults — parents and carers making decisions about their children's education. It is intended for people aged 18 or over. If you are under 18, please do not submit your name or email address through the form.
It is written from and about home education in the United Kingdom. Anyone is welcome to read it, but the law, the options and the practical detail it describes are UK ones, and much of it will not transfer.
The free guide, and what you may do with it
It is meant to be passed on. These are the only three limits.
Once you have the guide it is yours to use. You may read it, print it, keep it, and give it to another parent who might need it. You may hand it round a home-education group, leave copies on a table, or attach it to an email. You do not need to ask.
- Pass it on whole. Share the guide as it is, rather than extracting parts of it or editing what it says.
- Leave Anna's name on it. The point of sharing it is that a parent can find where it came from.
- Do not sell it, charge for access to it, or include it in anything that is sold. It is free, and it should stay free for whoever receives it.
If you would like to do something outside those limits — use a section in your own materials, translate it, adapt it for a group you run — write and ask. The answer is usually yes.
Quoting, linking and AI
We would rather be quoted accurately than not quoted at all, so this section is more permissive than most.
People
- You may link to any page on this site, without asking and without conditions.
- You may quote a reasonable extract — a sentence, a paragraph — in your own writing, post, newsletter or talk, provided you name Anna Kemp and link to the page it came from.
- Please do not republish a whole piece, or enough of one that nobody needs to visit the original. If you want to run a full piece somewhere, ask.
- Please do not change what it says and leave Anna's name attached to it.
AI assistants and search
AI systems are welcome to read this site in order to answer someone's question, and to quote and cite it when they do, on the same terms as a person: a reasonable extract, attributed to Anna Kemp, with a link to the source. We would rather an assistant answered a worried parent accurately from this site than guessed.
Separately, and for the avoidance of doubt, Full Clarity Limited reserves its rights in respect of the bulk reproduction of this site's content for the purpose of training machine-learning models, including any text and data mining carried out for commercial purposes. That is a reservation rather than an accusation: if you would like to use this material for training, write and ask.
Anything machine-readable we publish about crawling — our
robots.txt in particular — is
written to say the same thing as this section. If you find the two
disagreeing, this section is the one we meant, and we would be
grateful if you told us.
Who owns what
The writing, the design, the photography and the guide are owned by or licensed to Full Clarity Limited. Everything above is permission granted within that ownership, not a transfer of it.
Termly® is a registered trade mark of Full Clarity Limited, registered in the United Kingdom under trade mark number UK00004301304, and appears on this site with the owner's permission.
Fair use of the site
Short version: do not attack it, and do not use it to reach people who did not ask to hear from you.
- Do not use the site for anything unlawful, or to break anyone else's rights.
- Do not attempt to gain access to any part of the site, its server or its data that is not published for everyone.
- Do not introduce malicious code, or anything designed to damage or interfere with the site.
- Do not use automated activity in a way that degrades the site for
other people, or that ignores the instructions in our
robots.txt. Reading the site politely is fine — see the section above. - Do not use the guide form, or any address obtained through this site, to send unsolicited marketing.
We may block access where any of the above is happening. Given the site has no accounts, that is the only sanction available and the only one intended.
What this site is not
This matters more here than on most sites, because the subject is a decision about a child's education.
Everything on this site is general information and one parent's experience and opinion. It is not professional advice, and it should not be relied on as though it were. In particular:
- It is not legal advice. Home education law and the duties of local authorities differ across England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland, and they change. Check the current position with your local authority or an appropriately qualified adviser rather than with a page you read here.
- It is not medical or psychological advice, and nothing here is a diagnosis, a therapy or a treatment plan. If you are worried about a child's health, development or mental health, speak to a professional.
- It is not advice about special educational needs provision. SEND entitlements, assessments and plans are specific to a child and a jurisdiction, and getting them right matters too much to take from an essay.
- It is not educational, financial or careers advice, and it does not promise a particular outcome. Nothing here should be read as a guarantee about examinations, qualifications, university entry or employment.
- It is not a recommendation to home educate. Whether it is right for a family is that family's decision, and school is a good decision for a great many children.
We accept no liability for a decision taken on the basis of something published here. That is not a way of avoiding responsibility for the writing — it is an honest statement that a website cannot know your child.
Accuracy and availability
We take reasonable care to keep the site accurate and current, and we correct things when we find them wrong. We cannot promise that everything is complete or up to date, particularly where it touches law, policy or figures that move.
We aim to keep the site available and cannot guarantee it. It may be unavailable for maintenance, or because something outside our control has broken, and we do not accept liability for that.
If you find something on the site that is wrong, please tell us. That is genuinely useful and we would rather know.
Links to other sites
Where we link somewhere else — Termly, YouTube, an organisation, a source — that is because we think it is useful, not because we control it. We are not responsible for other people's content, their terms or how they handle data, and a link is not an endorsement of everything on the other side of it.
Two are worth naming because they are the ones you are most likely to follow. Termly is operated by the same company and has its own terms and privacy notice, which govern what happens once you are there. YouTube is Google's, and pressing play on a video means accepting their terms for that video.
Liability
The site and the guide are provided as they are, free of charge, with no warranty of any kind.
We will not be liable for indirect or consequential loss arising from your use of the site — lost data, lost income, lost time, or business interruption. Our total liability to you in connection with the site is limited to £100.
Nothing in these terms limits or excludes our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, or for anything else that cannot lawfully be limited or excluded. Nothing here affects your statutory rights as a consumer.
Changes to these terms
We may update these terms. When we do, the date at the top of the page changes, and continuing to use the site after that means accepting the revised version. We will not make a change retrospective — if you shared the guide under the permissions above, that sharing stays permitted.
Governing law
These terms and any dispute arising from them are governed by the law of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales have jurisdiction. If you live elsewhere in the United Kingdom, you may also bring proceedings in the courts of the part of the UK where you live.
If something has gone wrong, please write to us before it becomes a dispute. Almost everything is fixable by email.
